Put that cocoa down!

One of my favorite movies of all time is Glengarry Glen Ross, based on the David Mamet play. Well written, great characters, and an interesting story, particularly for those in sales or people who work closely with sales people. Like many professionals who have spent a career in and around sales, I'd put it up there on the pantheon of “must see sales movies" that everyone in business should watch at one time or another. Other films that I would include are (in no particular order):  Wall Street, Boiler Room, Tin Men, and added most recently, Wolf of Wall Street. If you are running a business or managing a sales team, you really should have your team watch (or rewatch) these great films.

A few years ago, Glengarry Glen Ross was revived on Broadway for a limited run around the holidays, with a great cast headlined by Al Pacino (who was also in the movie, but a different role) and Bobby Cannavale.  Instead of having a holiday party, I took my entire team to see the show, with our sales guys and me sitting in the VERY FIRST ROW. So close you could smell the smoke from Bobby Cannavale’s cigarettes. It was awesome.

One of the guys from the team was in my office shortly after and mentioned that he recently caught the SNL Christmas skit spoofing Alec Baldwin’s classic scene from the movie. I’ve included it above — if you have already seen the movie, you will definitely appreciate the satire. Enjoy — and remember, Always Be Cobbling!
